E-MU Proteus 2 Orchestral Module

All the instruments of the orchestra at your fingertips

The E-MU Proteus 2 was released in 1990 at Summer NAMM in Chicago. It was the first time high quality orchestral samples could be bought in a sub $2000 module. Previously an expensive sampler was needed. The new module contained 32 voiced of multi-timbral samples, coupled to a basic synthesizer sound architecture. The sounds for the Proteus 2 came directly from the EIII library (with a bit of sample rate changing), and include a wide range of strings, brass, wind and orchestral percussion.

The Proteus 2 sound is very distinctive and it has been used on lots of records in the early 1990's. It still remains a cheap means of getting an Orchestra into your music.

Expanded memory plus digital I/O

An oldie but a goodie. Akai's great sampler of the late eighties! It actually still stacks up pretty well even today! A 16-bit, 22kHz to 44.1kHz sampler with 12MB of RAM. Editing and programming the S-1000 is a very good. There are lots of advanced edit capabilities for looping, truncating, sample merging, time comp/exp, tuning and even analog-like parameters to control its filters and envelopes. Individual outputs for each of the 16 voices, stereo mix out, stereo input, MIDI, and trigger inputs round out this machine as a professional vintage-status sampler that still proves to be very useful even today! It is used by Moby, The Chemical Brothers, SkyLab, Scanner, Fluke, Nick Rhodes, Fatboy Slim, LTJ Bukem, Mr. Oizo, Crystal Method, Pet Shop Boys, Gary Numan, Future Sound of London, Jean-Michel Jarre, Mouse on Mars, and Apollo 440.

When we purchased this new in the late eighties, we boosted the memory to a whopping 12 megs. Not a lot by today's standards, but it will play oodles of great samples from the library we built and are including with it. We also added the digital I/O card so you can input/output digital as well as analog. Unlike many units today, it boasts 10 analog outputs letting you assign different samples to different output channels to keep them separate when tracking.

We spent over $6,000 building this sampler back in the day. It is still a useful sampler and can be added to your rack at an unbelievable price.

AMEK 9098 Dual Compressor/ Limiter by Rupert Neve

A very hard to find, TOP of the line professional dual channel compressor designed by Rupert Neve! With a new price of $2995, this unit is absolutely pristine. You must hear it to appreciate the fat sound you can get with this versatile modern compressor that is drawn from the vintage designs of earlier Neve compressors.

The SYSTEM 9098 Dual Compressor/Limiter, designed by Rupert Neve, provides Compression, Limiting and Ambience controls on each channel. The two channels may be linked for stereo operation. Firmly based on the performance and character of the historical 2254 Compressor developed by Rupert in the 1960's, this new unit incorporates the progression in his design concepts over the past thirty years. A greater degree of operational flexibility is coupled with a much higher overall performance specification. However, traditional features which have been Rupert's hallmark have been retained, notably the transformer-coupled inputs and outputs.

Tascam DA-30 Mk II DAT Mastering Recorder

This is a very low hour Tascam DAT Mastering Recorder. It will record and playback 16 bit digital audio at 44.1 KHz and 48 KHz. It uses re-recordable DAT tapes and we will even include 5 FREE tapes with the deck! You can record, erase, and rerecord all you want with the tapes.

This unit has both analog and digital ins and outs. The analog inputs and outputs can be at -10 db or balanced +4 db. It is a fully professional unit with solid electronics and transport. While it was $1200 new a few years back, you can now have one in excellent condition for a small fraction of that. It has the same quality and digital specs as a CD, so your recordings will be clean and quiet.
